  1. The Carver C-1 is a sweet and simple unit. Featuring Sonic Holography and basic audio controls, it easily compliments just about any hi-fi system. Bill D was a Carver fan (and engineer) that frequented audio forums, especially ‘thecarversite.com’ where he was well known as a generous and knowledgeable supporter of audio gear. The C-1 is a nice pre-amp for phono sources, but he wanted more. In his quest to reduce noise and increase reliability, he modified and restored his C-1 with high grade capacitors, metal film resistors, ultra-low noise high linear op-amps and other quality components to

  2. Hi all. Just registered. Have been on other Carver forums as Thall. Very close to pulling the trigger on getting my M-500t in for the MKII upgrade. C1 pre will be next for the Biil D mod.

  3. After shipping my M-4.0t and CT-7 preamp, I decided to go with the audiophile restoration instead of the basic restoration. The work is beautiful, and I will be a while getting used to the smooth, quiet, powerful sound that comes out of this restored combination. Even with hearing damaged from age, military service, and a career in restoration carpentry, I can hear wonderfully. For the first time, I am leaving the bass, mid-range, and treble controls set flat, and love the sound. This is money invested, not spent, on some of the best sound that I could ever afford. I am thankful to have e

  5. We proudly present the official M1.0t mkII opt002 upgrade! This mod gives your 1.0t a much higher power rating, more headroom, less commutation distortion, better current sourcing and performance into low impedance loads, and tighter bass and transient control. This mod includes replacement of all consumable parts, reflow of questionable solder, the thump fix, all service bulletins, new 5-way binding posts, cleaning inside and out. Amp is burnt-in and thoroughly tested against factory specs, and upgraded specs. This mod has been performed by Richard Pecoraro and Greg Garska of carver

  6. Years ago, when they first were sold, I had a C-4000 but had to sell it. Recently, I wanted to return to the pre-amp but I was hesitant because of its complexity and age. Luckily, I found Nelion through the Carversite, and reading the recommendation from Bob Carver about Greg's work was all I needed to see. I bought the nicest one I could find and shipped it to Greg. I received it last week, and it sounds fantastic. I can't take my eyes off it, and can't stop listening to it. Although it is a complex piece, if you truly admire Bob Carver's work it's a privilege to have one of these as th

  10. This often causes disagreements. I personally like installing IEC connectors on my gear. It's not about the 'boutique' power cords, but about the convenience of not having tethered power cords when I want to move or swap out components. They can be a pain to install, but as I do my own It isn't an issue. Where problems can arise and are often overlooked is when original polarity and grounding schemes are not adhered to or modification of those is not done properly. This is an important safety concern often overlooked by hobbyists.

  12. The 1.5t restore includes replacement of all consumable parts (including parts that are known to go bad), reflow of questionable solder, all service bulletins, cleaning inside and out. Most repair shops only do the very minimum to satisfy a 90 day warranty. We perform a full cleaning and restore to satisfy another 30 years of reliable operation! Best value in the business. The results of our restore is an amplifier performing to it maximum potential with effortless power and beautiful, detailed sound stage. 13. After several decades of reliable use, my C-1 was beginning to die. I really hated to get rid of it so I was elated to discover the repair offerings of Nelion Audio. I had the Bill D mod and general repairs made on my Carver C-1 pre-amp and I could not be happier with the results. It sounds just as good or maybe even better than it did when I first bought it way back in 1987. If you have any doubts or hesitancy to ship your product to them, don't worry. They took great care of the piece and performed excellent work on it. Here's looking toward several more decades of use!

  20. I have two M500t amps, and had both restored by someone I found on eBay. I had major/minor problems with both, so I sent them to Greg to look at. Greg opened them and sent me photos of what he found, and it's clear that someone who does not know electronics can be taken advantage of, as I was to some degree. So, bite the bullet and get your amp done right, by Greg, the first time. You'll save yourself a lot of time and money. Looking at the attached "before and after" photo, even to my inexperienced eye I can clearly see the difference between the "'eBay build" and Greg's workmanship.

  22. Greg ... I think those pics are from my A 500x. I must say, you did an awesome job in the repair/upgrade/renewal of this venerable piece of audio history. I am listening as I type these words, and happiness cannot fully describe the experience. Transcendence, rising from the Phoenix, back from the dead ... any of these are close to what this old amp experienced at Greg's expert hand. I thought about putting it on the trash heap, but Bob Carver is an audio god, and even if this is not one of his "pure" creations, it is part of the legacy so I wanted to do my part to keep it alive. So h

  24. The Carver C-4000 and 4000t are similar but also very different. However, restoring them and upgrading them are similar enough to include together. These preamps require a complete overhaul after nearly 40 years of use. We replace all the electrolytic capacitors with either high temp, long life type, bi-polar or low ESR where appropriate. We tear the unit down completely and recondition all the wipers on the attenuation knobs and buttons. Some units require factory updates and power supply fixes. All of these units also require the phono amps, time delay, auto correlator and sonic holography c

  25. Hi Nelion Audio, My recently modified/ upgraded Carver M1.0t has arrived and I've listened, and I am very pleased with its performance. Thank you for packing it so well. It's a long trip from Alaska to Michigan and back. The IEC power socket is a big plus. I'm glad I chose that option, along with the Mark II and the opt002. I'm still listening to the amp and it reveals itself as a magnificent piece of gear. I'm hoping to get many many more years of use from the amp. I give you a 5 star rating because your expertise has taken this amp to a new level. Thank You very very much. Sincerely,

  26. Hi Tom. I'm working on both of those modifications. I've wanted a color solution for LEDs for a long time, it just happens to be a little complex when trying to keep the price down as well as accessibility without making major changes to the outside of the unit.

  34. Tim, when you say PT 1.5 do you mean PM-1.5? This fan mod was designed for the single fan PM-1.5 pictured. The resistance value for R2 was measured for the PM-1.5 amplifier and the fan shown. A belt sander was used to bevel the bottom edge as well as trim 1/32" from top and bottom of the fan. When mounted properly, it moves just as much air as the original mainly because it has a built in shroud and OE did not.

  36. One wire is for signal and is not used. Yes the fan board taps the 50V supply but the fan does not see 50V. R2 is changed to 65 ohms (parallel 130 ohms) to attenuate quiet mode further.

  39. Looking for an amp for your highly efficient speakers? Look no further than Greg's latest "Z" mod on the 500t. Nope, it sounds like an AM radio on lower efficiency speakers, don't go there. I swapped the Z for my DennisMiller55 TFM-42 and just hated it with my Snells(90dB, 1W@1M). Ugh! Now, I've swapped out the Snell's for Klipsch Heresy 1.5's (102dB, 1W@1M). Glorious! Detail, presence and manners I never got from horns before! I'm really pissed Greg hadn't had this amp before I sold a dozen Heresy's... Really enjoying this!
