  • The M-400 is an epic product in the audio world. Virtually every audio enthusiast knows of this breakthrough 'little cube' amplifier from 1980. The M-400 was Bob Carver's first high production unit that feature the magnetic field power supply. Weighing only 9 lbs, this little cube belts out 200W per channel into 8 ohms all day - without heatsinks! By comparison, the popular and acclaimed super receiver by Pioneer, the SX-1250, boasted 160W per channel into 8 ohms, and weighed 65 lbs! This legendary receiver required an enormous transformer and large heat sinks to accomplish that, and was still considered efficient for its time. With the magnetic field power supply, none of those expensive and technically inefficient parts were needed. So Bob's cube changed audio hi-fi forever. More power, less cost, and better sound.

Nowadays, the M-400's out there need a lot of TLC. The M-400 benefits greatly from a comprehensive restore by experts that know this amp inside and out.

Restoral of this little gem involves replacing all electrolytic capacitors, reconditioning of the output transistor thermal isolators, replacement of critical resistors and pre-drive transistors, service bulletins and full cleaning inside and out. Output transistor pair is replaced on both channels with modern, high linear, high power parts.

I have always wanted one of these little technical marvels, and the opportunity arose when I bought one to power my C-4000's time delay speakers.  Greg did a marvelous job getting my M-400 working flawlessly, and his communication with me about the process was just as good as his engineering skills.  Thanks Greg.
